सम्बंधित संधि:
जब व्यञ्जन के सामने कोई व्यंजन अथवा स्वर आता है तब ‘हल’ (व्यंजन) सन्धि होती है। इसके प्रमुख भेद इस प्रकार हैं
व्यंजन संधि मे सन्धियाँ 6 प्रकार की होती हैं-
(1) श्चत्व – सन्धि – “स्तोः श्चुना श्चः” सूत्र से जब सकार और तवर्ग (स, त्, थ्, द्, ध्, न्) वर्गों के पहले अथवा बाद में शकार और चवर्ग (श्, च्, छ्, ज, झ्, ञ्) वर्ण आते हैं, तब सकार एवं तवर्ग के स्थान पर शकार एवं चवर्ग वर्ण क्रमशः होते हैं। अर्थात् स्, त्, थ्, द्, ध्, न् के स्थान पर क्रमशः श्, च, छ, ज, झ, ञ् वर्ण होते हैं। यथा –
(2) ष्टुत्व सन्धि – ‘ष्टुना ष्टुः।’ सूत्र से जब सकार एवं तवर्ग वर्गों से पहले अथवा बाद में षकार एवं टवर्ग वर्ण आते हैं तो सकार व तवर्ग (स्, त्, थ्, द्, ध्, न्) वर्गों के स्थान पर क्रमशः षकार एवं टवर्ग (ष, ट, ठ, ड्, द, ण) वर्ण होते हैं। यथा –
(3) जश्त्व सन्धि – ‘झलां जशोऽन्ते।’ सूत्र द्वारा पदान्त झल् प्रत्याहार के अन्तर्गत वर्षों (वर्ग के 1, 2, 3, 4 वर्ण तथा श् ष स ह वर्णों) के स्थान पर जश् (ज् ब् ग् ड् द्) वर्ण होते हैं। यथा –
(4) चर्व सन्धिः – ‘खरि च।’ सूत्र द्वारा खर् वर्ण (वर्ग के 1, 2, श् ष्, स्) परे होने पर झल वर्णों (वर्ग के 1, 2, 3, 4, श, ष, स्, ह) के स्थान पर चर् वर्ण (क्, च्, ट्, त्, प्, श्, स्) होते हैं। यथा –
(5) अनुस्वार – सन्धिः – ‘मोऽनुस्वारः।’ सूत्र द्वारा पदान्त मकार के स्थान पर अनुस्वार आदेश होता है, यदि सामने कोई व्यंजन हो तो। यथा –
(6) परसवर्ण सन्धिः
(6.1) ‘यरोऽनुनासिकेऽनुनासिको वा’ – यदि पद के अन्त में यर् (ह को छोड़कर शेष सभी व्यंजन) आए और उसके बाद अनुनासिक (ञ् म् ङ् ण् न्) आए तो यर् के स्थान पर विकल्प से अनुनासिक हो जाता है, यथा –
(6.2) ‘प्रत्यये भाषायां नित्यम्’ (वा.) – यदि यर् के बाद प्रत्यय का अनुनासिक आए तो यर् के स्थान पर नित्य अनुनासिक हो जाता है। जैसे –
(6.3) ‘अनुस्वारस्य ययि परसवर्णः’ – यदि अनुस्वार के बाद यय् (श्, ष, स्, ह को छोड़कर सभी व्यंजन) आए तो अनुस्वार को परसवर्ण (अगले वर्ण का पञ्चम वर्ण) हो जाता है। जैसे
(6.4) वा पदान्तस्य’ – पदान्त अनुस्वार के बाद यय् होने पर अनुस्वार को परसर्वण आदेश विकल्प से होता है। जैसे –
(6.5) ‘तोर्लि’ – तवर्गस्य लकारे परे परसवर्ण : स्यात्। यदि तवर्ग के सामने लकार हो, तो तवर्ग के स्थान पर परसवर्ण लकार आदेश होता है। वहाँ नकार के स्थान पर अनुनासिक लँकार होता है।

इस अलंकार में किसी व्यंजन वर्ण की आवृत्ति होती है। आवृत्ति का अर्थ है दुहराना जैसे–’तरनि-तनूजा तट तमाल तरूवर बहु छाये।” उपर्युक्त उदाहरणों में ‘त’ वर्ण की लगातार आवृत्ति है, इस कारण से इसमें अनुप्रास अलंकार की छटा है।
