Speech On Lal Bahadur Shastri: Lal Bahadur Shastri was our second Prime Minister in India. He promoted the green revolution in India in the year 1965. He was born in Mughalsarai, United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, British India on 2nd October 1904.

Today I am going to give a speech about our second Prime Minister in India, Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri.

He was born on 2nd October 1904 in Uttar Pradesh in India. His father was Sharda Prasad, a school teacher; his mother was Ramdulari Devi. Lal Bahadur Shastri was interested in helping in the Indian freedom movement. He was influenced by the speech given by Mahatma Gandhi at Banaras Hindu University.

He became a true admirer of Mahatma Gandhi and joined the freedom movement because of that. He always believed that self-sustenance and self-reliance are the two supports that help to make a nation strong.

After India got Independent in 1947, he got the post of transport and Home minister. In 1952, he became a Railway minister.

He got the post of the Prime Minister after the sudden death of Jawaharlal Nehru. He remained a Prime Minister for only eighteen months. He was a great man and a very good leader. He was given the title of “Shastri” meaning a great scholar.

He was rewarded the Bharat Ratna. His famous slogan is “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan”. He was also against the dowry system that is why he did not take any dowry from his own father in law.

He helped in solving many problems like, shortage of food, poverty and unemployment. To cope with the problem with the shortage of food, he helped in introducing the green revolution.

He guided our country very well during the war between India and Pakistan in 1965. He helped the people to be self relying and independent in every way. He had excellent powers in his will and he was a very soft-spoken person.

He followed the political ideals of Nationalist theory, Liberal theory and Right-wing theory. He was remembered for all the good works he did for our nation to be strong enough to overcome any difficulties.

Lal  Bahadur Shastri was also against the caste system which was prevailing. He had immense strong values like patience, courtesy, control within himself and selfless nature.

He was keenly interested in the foreign theories of Marx, Russell and Lenin and he read about them. In 1921, he was arrested during the non – cooperation movement because he was found demonstrating defiance against the order of prohibitory, but he was released shortly after that.

He became a local unit secretary of Congress Party and Allahabad Congress Committee’s president in 1930. He also helped during the “Salt Satyagraha” conducted by Mahatma Gandhi.

He led a campaign where he had to go door to door and urge the people for not paying taxes to the British. He participated in all these movements and helped in progressing India towards freedom.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was awarded the auspicious Bharat Ratna in 1966, posthumously.  He died after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan. He died on 11th January 1966 of a heart attack. He was a Prime Minister in India.
