Authorities Issuing the EWS Certificate

The EWS certificate is issued by a Competent Authority, where they produce the Income and Asset certificate to the candidates. Then only the candidates can avail of the benefits under the EWS category. These competent authorities are:

  • District Magistrate (DM) /Additional District Magistrate (ADM) / Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/ Additional Deputy Commissioner/ First Class Stipendiary/ Magistrate/ Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Executive Magistrate/ Taluka Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner
  • Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate
  • Revenue Officer (not below the rank of Tehsildar)
  • Sub-Divisional Officer (or the area where the applicant or his family normally resides).

EWS Certificate Validity

The EWS category certificate validity is defined by the issuing competent authority. Each certificate will be having a specific period of time. Usually, the validity of such certificates is for one year. If a candidate uses the certificate for any purpose such as for admission or employment, the officials will be verifying the validity of the certificate. What is the EWS category?

Answer:
Under the general category, the government has put a 10% reservation for the candidates who belong to the Economically Weaker Section of the society to avail of the benefits. These candidates have a quota for admissions in schools, colleges and also in employment sectors.

Who is eligible for an EWS certificate?

Answer:
Candidates who belong to the General category and do not belong to any other reserved category such as OBC, SC and ST, whose family annual income is less than 8 lacs per annum are eligible. Also, the candidate’s family should not possess any of these assets:
