UGC Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

All the UGC Fellowship have a specified set of eligibility criteria to be satisfied by the students that majorly encompasses the age of the students, educational requirement and family annual income. Also, there are some category-specific fellowships too, that is being proposed by UGC for scholars belonging to SC, ST or OBC classes. Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child (All Categories)

  • Girl students are eligible up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses.
  • The student should be the single girl child of her family.
  • The scheme applies to such a girl child who has taken admission in regular or full-time one year Masters Degree course in any accredited university or a postgraduate college.

Post Graduate Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holder (All Categories)

  • The students who have achieved their graduation in the following streams can apply
    • Life Sciences
    • Chemical Sciences
    • Physical Sciences
    • Social Sciences
    • Languages
    • Commerce
    • Mathematical Sciences
    • Earth Sciences
  • A student should be the rank holder, either first or second, at the UG level and joined in a full-time or regular master’s degree program from a known university/institute.
  • The age of the student should not be more than 30 years while getting admission in the PG course.
  • The student should have passed his/her graduation with a minimum of 60%.

Post Graduate Scholarships for Professional Courses for SC/ST Candidates

  • Students who are seeking the first year of the professional program at the PG level during the present year from a recognized university/institution.
  • The programs accredited from guiding governing organizations like MCI, NCTE, Bar Council of India, PCI, AICTE, Development Authority of India, NCTIS, RCI, DCI, Forensic Regulatory, INC, and ICAR regarded as expert courses for which the fellowship is suitable.

Ishan Uday Scholarship for NER

  • The scholarship is open for scholars who are citizen of North Eastern Region (NER) state and passed their 12th or equivalent examination.
  • The scholar must have procured admission in a technical, professional or general degree program from a recognized institute/college/university.
  • The annual income of the family or the earning members should not be more than Rs.4.5 lakh, in overall.

Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship for Research in Social Sciences (All categories)

  • Available only for girl child of a family.
  • The student must be seeking a regular, full-time Ph.D. program in Social Sciences from a recognized Indian University/ College.
  • The age limit for general category students is 40 years and for SC/ST/OBC and PwD is 45 years.
  • Students who are seeking their Ph.D. by distance education are not qualified to apply.
  • Transgender candidates are eligible to apply.

Emeritus Fellowship (All categories)

  • The fellowship is available to highly qualified, experienced and trained teachers of known institutions/colleges/ universities.
  • The applicant should have served with quality research and distributed work.
  • The fellowship gives the rewarded candidate, to serve with a well-defined time-bound action plan until the age of 70 years.

Dr.S.Radharkrishnan Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Humanities and Social Sciences (All categories)

  • The fellowship is available for jobless young researchers, aged below 35 years (Relaxation of 5 years is given for SC, ST, OBC, PwD and Women candidates). They should apply before the deadline online application submission.
  • The minimum cut-off marks to be obtained by general category scholars at UG level is 55% marks and at PG level is 60% marks. (A relaxation of 5% is available, for reserved classes including SC, ST, OBC, and PwD).
  • Available for transgender candidates also.

Dr. D.S.Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (All categories)

  • Applicants below 35 years of age are eligible who hold a Ph.D. degree under science faculty. (Note: A relaxation of up to 3, 5 and 10 years will be given to SC, ST, OBC, Women and PwD candidates).
  • Teachers who are working on a regular job and are below 35 years of age can also apply.
  • The past applicants of the fellowship can also apply if they were notified unsuccessful.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship to Women Candidates (All categories)

  • Women applicants only who are unemployed and have a Ph.D. degree are eligible.
  • The age of the applicant should not exceed 55 years (Note: A relaxation of 5 years in age will be given to SC, ST, OBC, PwD applicants).
  • The minimum percentage required by general category students at UG level is 55% and at PG level is 60% (Note: A relaxation of 5% is given to SC, ST, OBC, PwD candidates).
  • Transgender candidates are eligible to apply.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship to SC/ST Candidates

  • The fellowship is open for jobless candidates who have a Ph.D. degree in the related subject.
  • The age limit for male applicants is a maximum of 50 years, while for female applicants is a maximum of 55 years.
  • The candidates should have secured 50% marks at the UG level and 55% marks at PG level.
  • Transgender candidates are also eligible.

National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste (SC) Students 

  • The students who have passed their postgraduation examination and have registered for an M.Phil./PhD course are eligible to apply.
  • Transgender candidates are eligible.

National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students

  • A postgraduate student is eligible for the fellowship.
  • A student registered in a full-time regular M.Phil./PhD program at a university/college/institution recognized by UGC.

National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities

  • The fellowship is open for students with disabilities who enrolled in a Ph.D./MPhil program at a University or academic institution.

Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students

  • Students belonging to minority societies such as Muslims, Christians, Sikh, Buddhists, Parsi, and Jain.
  • A student enrolled in a full-time and regular M.Phil./PhD course.
  • The annual income of the family should not exceed Rs.2.5 Lakh.
  • The minimum percentage secured by the student in postgraduation in 50%.
  • Transgender applicants are eligible to apply.

National Fellowship for OBC Candidate

  • The students, passed their postgraduation and registered for M.Phil./PhD programs can apply.
  • The annual income of the family should not exceed Rs.6 lakh.
  • Transgender candidates are eligible for the fellowship.

The answer keys of UGC-NET examinations will be available from June 2012 to June 2014 on the UGC website www.ugcnetonline.in. For UGC-NET exam conducted from December 2014, answer keys are available on CBSE website www.cbsenet.nic.in.

The question papers of UGC-NET from December 2004 to June 2014 are available on the UGC websites www.ugcnetonline.in and www.ugc.ac.in For UGC-NET conducted from December 2014 onwards, they are available on CBSE website www.cbsenet.nic.in.

Government order No.F.6-30/2005 U-5 dated 6th December 2005 is reproduced below for information. Last para .. “ Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers vested under Section 20(1) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 the Government hereby directs the UGC to ensure effective implementation of the reservation policy in the Central Universities and those of Institutions Deemed to be Universities receiving aid from the public funds except in minority institutions under Article 30(1) of the Constitution.”

What is the procedure for verification of degrees by the students?

Answer:
The degree(s)/diploma(s)/certificate(s) are verified/validated by the issuing authority i.e. concerned university/institution only. DEB, UGC can provide the recognition status of the university/Institution which is available on the UGC website at www.ugc.ac.in/deb. UGC gives recognition to HEI to offer distance education programs for a particular academic session but details of students admitted/passed are maintained by the concerned HEI. Therefore verification of degree/Diploma is the responsibility of university concerned.
