Long Speech On Baisakhi 500 Words In English

Good Morning Everyone.

I am going to speak about the festival of Baisakhi today.

India is a land of festivals. Festivals occur throughout the year, and every Indian participates with great enthusiasm and brotherhood.

Baisakhi is a festival popular among Sikh and Hindu communities. Baisakhi commemorates the formation of the “Khalsa Panth” warriors by Sri Guru Gobind Singh the tenth Guru of the Sikhs in 1699. Guru Gobind Singh put down the foundation of the “Khalsa Panth” at the Golden Temple. We call this day as the “Khalsa Sirjana Divas”.

The day of Baisakhi marks the beginning of the Sikh New Year. It is the festival for spring harvest for the Sikhs and Hindus and is celebrated on April 13 or 14 every year. Baisakhi is also a prehistoric festival of Hindus in which harvest is celebrated marking the Solar New Year. The day of Baisakhi falls on the first day of the second month of Vaisakh in the Nananshahi calender.

People celebrate this festival when the rabi crop is ready to be harvested. Gurudwaras make the most of this festival. The Gurudwaras are decorated for people to visit. People sing traditional holy anthems and kirtans regarding Guru Gobind Singh at the Gurudwaras.

The Sikhs follow some important rituals on this day. The Sikhs cleanse themselves in the lakes and rivers before visiting the Gurudwaras. The Sikhs volunteer themselves as “Sewa” and distribute the “Kada Prasad” a sacred food made of semolina offered to the visitors at the Gurudwaras. All foods are cooked in an iron vessel to celebrate brotherhood as well. They offer prayers, thanking God for the crops in the years.

Various events take place on this day. Nagar Kirtan processions are also held all over India. People join in different community fairs. The long parade is carried out on the roads where men and women equally participate. Children perform different devotional songs thanking their Gurus.

The parade shows a variation of colours with people merry-making, dancing and singing throughout the rally. On this day, the women of the Sikh community gather to celebrate this day by singing and performing Gidda. Bhangra is also performed to celebrate this day.

People start engaging themselves in different activities, before one day of Baisakhi. On this day performance of folk instruments like the Vanjli and Algoza are very popular. Baisakhi fairs also take place, which is the main attraction for children. A significant part of the celebration takes place in Punjab. Wrestling bouts are also organized for entertainment.

People in this day pay tribute to the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. They show respect to those who sacrificed their lives for the country on this day.

Many Sikhs also visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar on this day. They take a dip in the sacred Amrit Sarovar at the Golden Temple, and this is considered holy. Apart from Baisakhi, Rangoli Bihu is celebrated by Assam, West Bengal celebrates Naba Barsha, and Kerala celebrates Vishu on this day.

Thank you.

Good Morning Everyone.

Today, I decided to host the speech on Baisakhi, considering the festive season. Everybody must know about the importance of this auspicious celebration.

Baisakhi comes in the first day of Vaisakh month which is between April to May, according to the Sikh calendar. Generally, according to the English Calendar, the festival falls on 13th April, but once every 36 years, we celebrate this festival on 14th April.

In the year 1699, this festival was celebrated under the patronage of Guru Gobind Singh. This festival includes Bhangra and Gidda dance along with langar in Gurudwaras. This festival celebrates the crocodile Rabi crops in Punjab.
