Gondwana University Examination Preparation Tips and Tricks

In today’s competitive environment, students must secure more marks than their peers to stand out from the crowd. Every year, countless students graduate into a job market that seems to be growing smaller year. Therefore, barely passing an exam, or even securing average grades can potentially close off opportunities and make job hunting a relatively difficult process.

Hence, students have to ensure that they prepare well and deliver their best efforts in the exams. Luckily, we have presented a few tips and tricks that are very effective. Consider adopting these strategies if you wish to secure more marks in your exams.

Create a Study Schedule: One of the very first steps a student must do is to assess the task at hand. The subjects are vast and concepts are many. But it is easy to learn all of these if the student allocates time effectively. For instance, consider allocating more time to difficult subjects. Abstract subjects such as mathematics require more practice to understand the concepts efficiently. On the other hand, if you do find such subjects easier to comprehend, then divert your time to subjects that are more difficult. For some students, language-based subjects can be a pain. The best way (but probably not the most interesting way) is to read more and more. The key takeaway here is to spend time efficiently – remember, hard work is not always smart to work.

Practice to Perfection: Ever wondered why skilled tradesmen (such as carpenters and woodworkers) are so good at their job? The answer is practice. Consider this analogy – a dancer can execute a move perfectly only if they constantly practice. A singer can perform brilliant vocals only because of practice. Therefore, subjects become easier over time with enough practice. Moreover, practicing helps to save time in an exam. A formula or a procedure need not be recalled every time to solve and answer. Students will eventually develop a “knack” for knowing the answer even before attempting to solve it. However, it depends on how much time is devoted to practice. And remember – practice leads to perfection.

Taking Notes: One of the most underrated study techniques is making notes. This may sound tedious – to jot down every point that your teacher or lecturer says, but doing so has its benefits. For instance, you will be even more attentive as you have to understand the lecture and then transcribe it onto a notebook. This activity requires the coordination of your hands, ears, and brain. This is, therefore, one of the most effective methods to learn a concept. Moreover, the student can use these notes as another useful point of reference. This is true especially during the last few hours of an upcoming exam. Revising concepts becomes easier and the student will be able to recall information more effectively.

Diet and Sleep: It is no surprise that maintaining a proper diet and getting adequate sleep is important for the learning process. Stimulants such as caffeine can be a boon to students, however, if misused, it can severely affect the cognitive capabilities. Similarly, sleep is required for the brain to reset and reinforce the learning which happened during the day. Getting no sleep or very little sleep can be very detrimental to the learning process. Therefore, ensure that you get a good night’s rest before a major exam. Remember – it is counterproductive to stay up all night and then write an exam.
