What is Data Science Internship?

Data science internship India is a unique opportunity for candidates who want to get hands-on experience working with data (or pieces of information) at a fast-growing company. Many fresh graduates often have trouble when they start their first official job as a data scientist. Abruptly they understand that the data they will be working with is much more complex than what they’ve studied.

Working in real-life projects of date science is a little complicated because the data sets you find while learning about it are delicately preprocessed by the course instructor. That is why they look simpler and cleaner than real-world data sets.

Data Science Internship Details

In data science, you will be introduced to real-life data sets. You will be given training under a team of professionals who have been working for the company for the past few years, doing the analysis and solving queries for companies. The key points of data science are;

  • Analyzing the data
  • Generating the report
  • Data visualization
  • Presenting the data into an understandable way

All of those might appear amazing for the amateur data scientist, but it’s not just a single job. The person has to work jointly with engineers, product designers, and product managers. You will be devising the metrics, study randomized controlled experiments, and undertake hard open-ended problems.

You need to study and master a few programming languages and have some SQL skills apart from learning how to use big data tools. It might look complex to some, but a person has to give it a try before making any decision. While doing an internship you will be made to work all the required tools and make you ready to be a part of the company or to give an interview.

Basic Requirements for Data Science Internship

Now when you have already decided to do the internship for data science, you must know how can you get to do the internship.

Resume or CV: The quickly you start with making your data science cv the better it will be for you. Make sure your resume is up-to-date and comprises previous projects. Your CV plays a huge role to get admission for an internship, so better you make it very precise.

Cover Letter: You might consider making your cover letter completely customized to stand out from the other candidates. A general cover letter will surely make an impression- one more application of an applicant out of a huge collection. No company likes to think they are just one of a long list of possibilities, and it makes the candidate look confused.

Personality: Your personality also plays an important role here while giving the interview for a data science internship. By personality we don’t mean how good looking you are, but how you represent yourself in front of the interviewer. Your etiquette, body language, manners and everything related to your behavior makes an impact on the interviewer. Also, make sure before you head for the interview, you are wearing a formal dress rather than any casual one.

Soft Skills: Many companies desire that the candidate should be very good at speaking. They should be very much confident and prepared before heading towards the interview. If you have the knowledge, but lack in speaking skills then you might miss the chance to get the opportunity for a data science internship. You can practice interview questions available online and build your confidence.

Indirect Experience: It’s right that you don’t require to have direct experience but that doesn’t mean there is no experience required at all. If you work in retail work as a cashier also, it is considered as experience. Though you are working here for some extra cash, companies recognize these jobs as chances to learn a variety of skills. You learn here to communicate professionally, be a leader, negotiate, resolve conflicts and find solutions to problems.

These are some soft skills that will help you be successful in your internship. You can also volunteer or work for a community to gain experience. Before the interview, get ready with the skills you have gained working at past jobs and how you can best apply these to your data science internship.

Building a Professional Network: LinkedIn is like your best friend when you look for an internship. Get a Premium account if you can and find people in the corporations you really want to work for. Search for Data Scientists and/or Human Resource professionals and drop a message to them. Give a brief about yourself, your goals and let them know you’re interested in their company and want to be a part of it. There are many people who will be willing to help you out. Follow up with them in a week or two.

Sometimes because of the busy schedule, they forgot to check their messages, hence it is your responsibility to make them remind. They will surely revert you back, if not try with some other person in the company. Similarly, you can use the function to search for alumni of your school or university to find people in data science roles or at the company you’d like to work for who may be extra willing to network with a student or fellow alumni of their alma mater.

About DRDO

DRDO was established in 1958 from the union of the then already functioning Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development & Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO). DRDO was previously a small organisation with 10 enterprises or laboratories. Over the years, it has grown multi-directionally in terms of the quality of subject disciplines, number of laboratories, achievements and growth.

Now, DRDO is a system of more than 50 laboratories which are strongly engaged in developing defence technologies including various disciplines, like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, instrumentation, missiles, advanced computing and simulation, special materials, naval systems, life sciences, training, information systems and agriculture. Soon, the Organisation is backed by over 5000 scientists and about 25,000 other scientific, technical and supporting staff. Several major plans for the development of missiles, armaments, light combat aircraft, radars, electronic warfare systems, etc., are on hand and important actions have already been made in several such technologies.
