Question 1.
How did the economic interests of the Northern States clashed with those of the Southern States in America before the Civil War ?
Answer:
The Northern States were highly developed in industries and the slave system was finished; but in the Southern States which were agriculturally developed needed slave workers in cotton, wheat fields. So their working systems clashed. Due to increasing tariffs payed by the Southern States became the matter of conflict between the two groups of states. So, the free and slave states divided into two groups and again, the addition of new states into particular group became the point of friction between them.

What was the Abolitionist Movement ? How did it lead to the Civil War in America ?
Answer:
After the admission of Missouri in slave states and Maine in free states, the attempts of Northern states against slavery did not stop. In 1831 William Lloyd Garrison, the editor of the paper entitled ‘The Liberator”, started the Abolitionist movement in 1833 when the American Anti-Slavery Society was founded. This created tension in the Southern States, especially for the campaign of the Northern States trying to help the slaves to escape even across the border of Canada. This created a big problem for the Southern States, which eventually gave way to the Civil War.

Why was there a struggle over the question of Taxas and California between the Northern and Southern States of America ?
Answer:
When taxes was joined to Slave States, the number of states in both groups became fifteen each. But again when California was to be admitted to Free State, the disturbance took place in opposition, but by passing the Fugitive Slave
Act meaning the authority to recover the run-away slaves along with the punishment for running slaves.

What was the Dred Scott case ?
Answer:
The Supreme Court of USA made matters worse when in the Dred Scott case in 1857, it decided that a slave was a piece of property of the owner. It was also declared that a Negro not being a citizen of USA, had no right to appeal in the Court of Law. This was in the favour of Southern States but it annoyed the Northerns.

What is the importance of the Gettysburg Address of Lincoln ?
Answer:
Lincoln was a great orator. His speech after the terrible Battle of Gettysburg in 1863 at the time of the victory of the Northern States, imparted a deep effect for the future structure of the history of U.S.A. He insisted the importance of democracy for the welfare of the state as “These dead shall have not died in vain. They died so that the . government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.”

Describe any three causes of Civil War of America.
Answer:
Main causes of Civil War were as follows :
(a)
Different economic interests of the Northern and Southern States due to their different occupations e.g. the Northern States were industrially developed and the Southerns were occupied in large scale agriculture, assisted by the Negro Slaves.
(b) Till 1820, there was a balance between the free and slave states, but afterwards controversy started for the addition of any new state in either group.
(c) The Abolitionist movement in 1833, the American Anti-Slavery Society was founded, which resulted in the problem of escaping of slaves from their masters disturbing the occupational structure in the South.

What was the slave problem ? How did it prove an important cause of Civil War in America ?
Answer:
Abolitionist Movement was to finish the slave system, which was dominant in the South. This directly affected the agricultural economy of the Southern States. So they protested against it and consequently the Civil War began in 1861 and lasted for four years upto 1865. The escaping of the slaves motivated by the Northern States proved a big blow to the Southerns to lag behind in economical race.

Answer:
Initially the Southern States became successful in the battle field under the president ship of Jefferson Davis, but afterwards Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, for all slaves, so the South was deprived of the help of the slave population. Soon the Northern forces captured New Orleans followed by Vicksburg. So the Confederate States were cut into two parts and the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, proved a great blow to the Southern States and in 1865, General Lee was forced to surrender at Appomattox Court House. The Civil War came to an end in 1865 with the victory of the Northerns due to more wealth and resources along with the powerful Federal Navy.

Civil War of America caused a great loss of Men and Money, so remarkable changes occurred in the -history of America. Now the phase of rapid economic growth started both in the North and South. Both industries and scientific farming were started for solid material development. Development of roads and railways, settlement of Tariff policy, foundation of banking system, abolition of slavery and the national unity, etc. are the who some results and America became an active participant in international affairs. Democracy and Federalism became the main features of the destiny of America.

What was the role of Abraham Lincoln in the Civil War of America ?
Answer:
Abrahim Lincoln was a great orator, administrator and the first elected president of United States of America. He was the follower of democracy and in this field he worked hard to reform the structure of America. He condemned the slavery and supported the Northern States to establish a democratic rule. He became successful to convince both groups for this purpose. He always tried to save the Union or the unity of the states facing each and every odd situation and problem coming on the way during the Civil War of America. So, he is known as the savior of the United States. His classic speech known as the Gettysburg address in 1863, proved the strong inspiration for the democratic rule.
